1. General Guidelines
This first section covers important background information & guidance for Merchants who are considering participation in our MHH Hunts and/or Events. (Additional rules and guidelines for Merchants who are participating follow on this same page. See also our Code of Conduct.)A. Mieville Historical Hunts & Events have Themes
For our Hunts, Hunt gifts that participating merchants provide should be in-theme in some way. (Timeless items that transcend themes, such as flowers, pets, etc. are also very welcome and valued.) For our Events, at least some of the products that merchants display for sale at their Booth at our Event Site should be in-theme in some way or timeless.
Since 2009, our Mieville community does three large 3-4 week long Hunts every year and special Events, Expos, and Fairs are tied with these:
The STEAM Hunt & Expo (in March) deals with Steampunk and Victorian-era themes
The Silk Road Hunt & Fair (in June) deals with themes related to the historic Silk Road
The Renaissance Hunt & Faire (in September) focuses on Renaissance themes
Some years these large Events with Hunts may have more specific sub-themes such as "Silk Road: Silks, Spices & Secrets." In addition, the MHH Events & Hunts group hosts smaller Events with themed markets throughout the year. However, all our themes can be interpreted broadly if necessary. We are flexible! If in doubt, ask one of the MHH Events & Hunts Team members (Bella Bradley, Meadow Copperfield, Farzaneh Eel, Pierre Ceriano, Unalunaqat) — we’ll get right back to you!
B. Application Process
Applications for participation in one of our Mieville Hunts and larger Events are typically released a month or more in advance.
Apply promptly: Merchants interested in participating should fill out and submit their application as soon as possible.
Select one or both: Most merchants participate in our three traditional large grid-wide Hunts and the Themed Market in their accompanying Events. On your application, just indicate if you are applying for one or both. (Smaller Events like MHH Halloween and Christmas do not have grid-wide Hunts.)
Stay tuned: You will be notified when your application has been accepted for participation.
Late application: If you miss the application due date, please inquire. We may have some flexibility to consider late applications.
C. Group Communication
To facilitate communication and community-building, please observe the following:
Join the Group: All participating Merchants (Hunt, Event, or both) must join the “Mieville Historical Hunts Merchants” group and remain in the group for the duration of the Hunt / Event, if not longer.
Info sharing: We will share Hunt / Event information, news, and materials via this Group; please read Group Notices! Feel free to use the Group for friendly Chat, socializing, etc. We’ll share info on other Mieville social events too!
Positivity: We keep things positive on all our Mieville Groups and Chat, and please no spoilers!
Contact members of the MHH Events & Hunts team with any questions!
D. About Gifts
For the Hunt, the gift you provide for our Hunts must be free and should be in-theme in some way. Timeless items that transcend “themes,” such as flowers, pets, etc. are also welcome and valued. For Events, you may donate an in-theme or timeless gift at your booth to encourage visitors or as part of games we organize.
Copyright & TOS: All gifts you provide must adhere strictly to Linden Lab rules related to copyright, other creators’ TOS, and other applicable requirements.
Gendered gifts: If you would like to make a gendered gift (for example, a themed gown for a female body) please also provide an equivalent gift for a male or a gender-inclusive gift.
E. Inclusion
The Mieville community has a long tradition of inclusion and respect. Our community includes child avatars, Dinkies, Furries, Mer-folk, large and small Animals, Insects and Arachnids, as well as human adults and additional avatar expressions. If possible, please aim for a gift for one or more of these communities or a gift that anyone might enjoy. Thank you!
F. Adult Regions & Adult Content
The Mieville community and its Hunts and Events are rated Moderate.
For our Hunts, shops at Adult regions are welcome to apply to participate but must agree to have any adult content, nudity etc. out of sight from the landing point(s) and the hunt area itself.
Our Events take place on Mieville regions, all of which are Moderate. We do not allow sex-focused shops or Adult sexual material of any sort in our Events.
All visitors and all merchant items must be completely clothed, and vendor photos must have appropriate coverage on body parts as if this were a General region.
G. Adhere to Mieville's Code of Conduct & Values statements
Mieville has always been a kind and supportive community. We are LGBTQ+ friendly, neurodiverse & disability friendly, kid friendly, and respectful of diverse identities and backgrounds. Violence, personal attacks, hate speech etc. are not permitted in our community, our Groups, or any of our activities. We keep things positive in Mieville and our activities; profanity is discouraged.

2. MHH Hunts and Events Guidance & Rules
In addition to the General Guidance above, here are additional rules for Merchants who are participating in MHH Hunts and / or Events.
Our rules are simple and help to ensure a smooth and consistent experience for Visitors and Shoppers at the Event and for you! If you have questions / issues related to Guidelines or MHH Events & Hunts, please contact a member of the MHH Events & Hunts Team: Bella Bradley, Farzaneh Eel, Meadow Copperfield, Pierre Ceriano, Unalunaqat.
A. Publicity: After acceptance, you will be provided with a publicity poster that we ask you to display at your home shop or location right away. Please also advertise the Event in your own groups / networks. Thank you!
B. Event Site Rezzing: You must join the Mieville Historical Hunts Merchants Group to be in the Event and use that tag when you rez items for your booth. If you are not in this Group please contact a member of the MHH Events & Hunts Team to get an invite.
C. For Hunts: Please abide by our MHH Hunt preparation and setup processes! These will be shared with participating merchants in advance. Please hide your Hunt gift at your shop fairly. It must be visible and touchable, i.e. not inside a wall or within / surrounded by an invisible prim. Please provide a Hint for hunters and please use our provided tracks if your gift is hidden far from your landing site.
D. Event Booth Boundaries, Scripts, Audio: Please place your sale items and any decoration within or just outside your booth only. Please refrain from anything that infringes on neighboring carts, booths, walkways, and/or Event site theme decor. Any sound items must be set to lowest level or off; any shooting particles, light beams, etc. must be set to off or have range reduced to be inside your booth only. Please direct any questions / issues to a member of the MHH Events & Hunts Team. Thank you!
E. Due Dates: Please abide by our due dates! We strongly encourage that your Event booth / Hunt preparation be fully set up by the start date established for that specific Event. If you have a problem and need assistance or more time, please contact a member of the MHH Events & Hunts Team as soon as possible.
F. Abide by MHH Guidelines: Your participation in an MHH Event / Hunt and MHH activities signals your implied consent to abide by Event and General Guidelines. Please be sure to review all our Guidelines; see especially General Guidelines 1F and 1G. If an issue arises, we will make every effort to first communicate with you and work with you toward satisfactory resolution. We do reserve the right to drop a Merchant or Visitor who cannot abide by the Guidelines or adopt our suggestions for resolution. Thank you for understanding!
