Renaissance Hunt XIV - A Few Highlights!

Hi Friends - Hope you're all enjoying The Renaissance Hunt XIV and all its offerings!

💥 Hunt List & slurls here!   ðŸŽ‰ Dances & Music Events info here! 💥 Themed Markets at Verne & Twain!

A lot has been going on and our dear friend Meadow is still out, but here are a few TRH XIV highlights!

✨  Music Events: Wow! We've had two so far and 3 more to come, every Saturday!

TRH XIV - Dancing at music event

🎉 Next dance is Sat. Sept 27 @ 6:00-8:00pm: Dance with DJ Talon! All are welcome! Don't miss out - check out our schedule

The Illumination Show on Sept 13 by Mrs Lollo and Evermore Noel was spectacular! Great visual effects, great music, and non-stop dancing. Simply wonderful!

TRH XIV - Illumination Show by Mrs Lollo & Evermore Noel - Sept 13

For a complete change of pace, on Sept 20 Talon performed a very fun and authentic acoustic set, singing traditional English, Irish, and Scottish songs, with some jokes interspersed! Yours truly danced the whole time while greeting and seating arrivals. Talon's performance was entertaining and so much fun!

✨ Twain's Themed Market for TRH XIV is a Romani Camp, in honor of Perryn

Back in the day, Perryn's Ren Hunt Markets very often included a Romani section with colorful vardos, campfires, and wandering chickens. Yours truly almost always chose a small blue vardo at the site. In that vein, for XIV I designed a forest-y Romani camp, complete with yummy edible mushrooms, wandering chickens, and restive deer -- that is, along with merchant wares in colorful vardos. Should you get hungry while wandering through the forest and shopping, stop by the Bibliothèque's vardo for a bowl of nourishing gulyas and a drink of cool pure water!

✨ And of course TRH XIV features a fun Grid-Wide hunt with almost 60 stops!

I'm behind schedule this time and have only just started visiting the shops! Luckily TRH XIV goes through Oct. 12 so still plenty of time for me, phew! :)  But here are photos of the first few shops...

The Grid-wide Hunt starts at Mieville's Welcome Center on the Doyle sim. Here I am outside the Welcome Center, looking around for the hidden gift. Hmmm... where could it be?

Next stop is Kittycat's Creations, where a gent offered me some refreshments... Dear Reader, I said yes! This shop specializes in all manner of unique drinks on serving platters. Try them out!

After finding that gift, I headed to Beachglass Gardens. Wow, this large outdoor area is super pretty! I'm in love with these greenhouses!!

Then off to [noctis], a shop I remember fondly from the earliest days that I participated in Mieville hunts as a hunter. [noctis] has such a distinctive quirky Victorian and goth style - love it!

Well, that's about as far as I've gotten, but wanted to give you all a taste of TRH XIV so far! :)  ♥
And don't forget to play Meadow's Magic Pansy Potion mini-hunt game and win more free prizes! Details & HUD at the Welcome Center! Have fun!  Hope to see you at the Music Events!!

STEAM XIX Grid-Wide Hunt, part 1!

Hi Friends,

Here it comes, your guide to starting the STEAM XIX Grid-Wide Hunt, installment 1!

Visit our Hunt Order & Gifts post!
______________________________________________________

And now, some STEAM-y history!

Back in Sept. 2009, Mieville's founder Perryn Peterson created STEAM, SL's very first grid-wide Steampunk themed hunt. Perryn was super into Steampunk but not the gory, gritty, or creepy variety. As with all of the Hunts he created and Mieville itself, he was more a fan of generosity and fun, plus whimsical and odd things. That's the spirit of STEAM that we strive to uphold.

 Did you know....

  • STEAM was actually an acronym that stood for Steampunk Travellers Event Adventure & Mega-hunt.
  • Steampunk in SL was very popular in 2009! There were 103 participating shops in the very first STEAM hunt!
  • And, in case you're doing the math, you might wonder how 2025 could possibly be STEAM number nineteen. Simple: for the first few years, STEAM was offered twice a year!
Wow, that's a whole lotta STEAM!

Ok, our trip down memory lane is complete. Come along with me now and let's start the STEAM XIX Grid-Wide Hunt!

Happy New Year! Celebrating Mieville's Beauty!

Hi Everyone - Let's ring in the New Year by celebrating the beauty of historic Mieville!

Hope you all are well! Sadly, I'm currently snowed in by a real life blizzard! 🌨 ⛄ 🌨 So pretty to look at but horrible to shovel out, lol. Since I'm stuck inside, I decided to wander around historic Mieville taking photos. I'm learning more about SL photography just for fun and want to share some results with you. Here we go!

At Doyle, I have always loved the boats and the Steampunk lighthouse. But because they are at the very edge of the Doyle sim and there are tall buildings immediately behind where I'm standing, it is devilishly hard for me to get a good angle of the Saint Lidia boat and the lighthouse, and impossible to get much of the huge lighthouse in frame. Well, no matter — I like how both of these snaps turned out. Nice and very crisp! (Click on the photos to enlarge them. Look - I'm giving myself a slow clap, lol!)

Mieville Doyle - Boat and lighthouseMieville Doyle - Lighthouse and portrait

Doyle is one of the most historic sims in the Mieville microcontinent. It was created in 2008 and still has a number of impressive old original builds in place! I'm not sure how long the boat and lighthouse have been in place, but my best guess is circa 2011-12.

Also at Doyle, I love the gorgeous Awl & Sundry Coffee & Teahouse. The Awl & Sundry has been in place at Doyle since around 2009. The glass-domed orangerie building itself and much of the promenade components were built by followmeimthepiedpiper and styled at Doyle by former Mievillian Mike Olbracht, one of Mieville's first builders who also did the St. Lidia boat and lighthouse.

Doyle - Awl & Sundry Teahouse

At Lakes, you'll find the historic Memorial Gardens. This area is a place of remembrance for friends and family who have passed. I visited many times before I noticed the huge teardrop sculpture in the sky. My photo captures just part of the sculpture! I'm using a bokeh effect here to focus the eyes more on the teardrops and less on other aspects in frame.

Mieville Lakes - Memorial Gardens Teardrop SculptureMieville Lakes - Memorial Gardens memorials

You can see I'm learning to play with lighting more in SL photography.
Loving the sundown behind the teardrop sculpture and how the light illuminates the center arches in the second Memorial Gardens photo.

Also at Lakes is one of my favorite spots in all of Mieville. If this structure has an official name I don't know what it is — but I call it the Roman pavilion garden. (Okay, I'm cheating — this is an old photo I took last year of this beautiful site.) I didn't take a new photo but would be remiss not to include this lovely garden in this post celebrating Mieville's beauty. This garden pavilion and its walkways have been in place since circa 2008! Like the Awl & Sundry, the components of the pavilion were created by followmeimthepiedpiper and styled by Mike Olbracht.

Mieville Lakes - Roman Pavilion Garden

At Twain, last year I beautified the Twain side of the Twain-Kipling sim border that is directly below the Bibliothèque's sky platform. The area was left barren after someone moved out so I added the trees, bushes, and this rocky shoreline. I like to sit here and watch the waves splash against the rocky shore. It's very peaceful!

Mieville Twain - Beautiful rocky shore
Mieville Twain - Beautiful sunset at San Francisco Docks Walkways

Along the Steampunk San Francisco warehouses in the same area I recently added some Victorian-style streetlights and a wrought iron fence along the docks walkways to make them safer for strolling. It's amazing how really small changes like these can make a world of difference.

No stroll through historic Twain would be complete without a visit to the humongous and amazing Lexx Bondar Steampunk dirigibles (did you know you can go inside them??) and the old San Francisco docks warehouse buildings. But did you ever notice how beautiful the warehouse brickwork is? I didn't until I added those Victorian streetlights. Wow! Those colors really pop now! And of course there are lots of fun and unique shops, galleries & boutiques inside the warehouses - so please do go inside to browse and shop! Plus you'll find the huge and famous Lindy Modern & Retro Shoes nearby with a great selection of styles!

Okay, that's it for this round! Hope you enjoyed the quickie tour of a few historic Mieville sites and the photos. Thanks for sharing the Mieville love with me! Wishing you all a happy New Year — best to you all!

Your friendly Mieville Librarian & Shutterbug,

P.S. If you want to see more historic Mieville photos, please be sure to visit the Bibliothèque and pick up a free copy of my book, The History of Mieville. Enjoy!

❅⛄❅  ❅⛄❅  ❅⛄❅

Now, our Friendsgiving Story! Back in 2018, our Mr. Mayor Perryn Peterson gave me permission to host a Thanksgiving party for Mieville.  I had been living in Mieville for a while at the invitation of Mr. Mayor who was a fan of my Bibliothèque. Attending weekly Town Hall meetings, I was impressed by Mieville's inclusiveness and friendly community spirit. It was surprising to me that there was no Thanksgiving tradition at that time. So, proposing we hold a Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving Feast became my own first real service to the Mieville community and it became an annual tradition.

Now, here it is six years later.

Our 6th annual Mieville Friendsgiving celebration will take place on Weds. Nov. 15 at NOON SLT — convenient for our friends in Europe and all early birds elsewhere, and again at 6:00 pm SLT, as Mieville's regularly scheduled Social Hour.

Both Friendsgiving celebrations will be held at the Bibliothèque, where it all started. All are welcome!

Please mark your calendars! Please watch Group Notices for more details...

Exploring Haunted Halloween!

Whoa, there is SO much going on at Mieville's Historical Hunts Haunted Halloween event! Themed markets, games, and activities are taking place across several Mieville sims, and all feature Halloween decor galore, with an occasional dollop or two of gore. Let's take a quick tour of a couple Mieville regions starting with Shelley and Chesterton.

All of the sites I visited in Mieville Shelley are accessible via the Haunted Halloween teleport portals. This portal below is located in Chesterton.

On the right of this portal is Roger Thunders' site with instructions for the Event's multi-sim scavenger game. You can earn points by collecting various objects and then redeem them for prizes. Read all about how to get started by visiting this site!

Next, if you touch a portal's steps, a menu pops up with 23 (!) different sites to visit. The first one listed is Cara Cali's Botanica in Shelley, a nice colorful place to start! You'll find tons of seasonal holiday items at Botanica, both decorating the site and for sale.

Just across the road you'll find more great shops including Grasshopper Street (by Mitra Ardwyad), WonderWorks (Roger Thunders), Witch's Corner (Ellen Sideways), and FT design (Akiv Wizardly).

From there I decided to visit other Shelley sites listed in the portal. These included EED Home and Garden (by BB Woodford), Angel Fae Boutique (Sorrell Scorpio), Kharg Haunted (Keanu Kharg), and Witch Haven Games, a central site for games at Shelley. You can see from the photos below that there are photo ops and neat things to explore at all of them! The Games site includes vendors where you can redeem scavenger game points for prizes, shown in the photo below. All of these Shelley sites can be reached directly by the portals so I won't put in lm's here. Use the portals — they're fun!

Top, L-R: EED Home & Garden, Angel Fae Boutique; Bottom, L-R: Kharg Haunted, Witch Haven games.

In comparison, you really do need to walk or fly around Chesterton or have lm's to discover everything as the portal does not include many Chesterton sites! There's a ton of shopping here, a mini-hunt, games, and some unique sites. So put your witchy walking shoes on and let's take a quick spin through Chesterton!

The first thing you might notice about Chesterton is how colorful everything is, and there is a fair amount of gore. And murder, mayhem, flowers, and green slime. And at least one demonic alligator. And grenades, blasters, and bombs...

(at Dj Dragon's site); Bottom, L-R: Cemetery Shop Industries (by Damon Salvatore), purveyor of animesh ghouls & gators, and Evolution King, purveyor of grenades, blasters, bombs 'n' more.

And then there are bright, colorful, full-perm, family-friendly, and slightly spooky shops to explore...

These include (L-R above) nana Saenz's colorful and animated México lindo / Día de los Muertos tribute, with many items for sale including a winged flying skeleton and more. Nearby, the Builders Factory (by Pierre Ceriano) has a number of creepy full-perm objects for sale, plus expertly-made textures. nana has more beautiful-spooky items for sale at her Impertinences booth and creepy animesh dance party, both also at Chesterton.

Our Anuenue friends Jamie Peterson, Sebby Tiogar, and Meadow Copperfield collaborated on a family-friendly section of Chesterton that includes a haunted Victorian mansion (left, above) and a mini-hunt. Find out more at the house. Their respective shops are nearby the mansion too. I love the Wizard's Apprentice brooms with buckets — watch out when you land there, wink wink!

The Dragonsworn booth (right, above) by Annakari Genesis has cute-spooky dolls, little wizards, sad broken bunnies and more for sale. This booth is tucked inside a tower like a hollowed-out tree — don't miss it!

Wander around and you'll find many other interesting shops with great products:

Chesterton Haunted Halloween - Dalrymple Shop
Chesterton Haunted Halloween - Orchid Petal Designs, Lindy Shoes, Dolome Designs

2nd row: Shaman's Hut (Prokofy Neva), Anouka Cvercko's site
3rd row: %Percent (Plato Novo), Dalrymple shop (Sarah Dalrymple)

Last, I want to end this looong post on a bit of a personal note. Some of you know that each year at this time I build an altar for Día de los Muertos. I do it not for fun kitschy reasons but to honor and remember those who have passed. This is the 1st time I have built my altar at an "Event" rather than at the Bibliothèque.

Please do visit the Bibliothèque's little altar if you are interested in Mexican culture / traditional Día de los Muertos observances, or if you wish to honor those who have passed. You will see our dear Mr. Mayor Perryn Peterson honored there, along with Mieville's master DJ Ktahdn Vesuvino and others. How many traditional components can you identify, and do you know why they are there?
This year I added my own calaveritas literarias, or Little Skull Poems. These are little poems that make fun of death, and they are components of many traditional Día de los Muertos celebrations in Mexico. Near the feet of Mictlantecutli and Coatlicue (Aztec God of death and Patroness of life and death), there are some small brightly colored books. Just touch them to receive my silly calaveritas — enjoy!
(Oh, pssst: I should point out that la Santa Muerte does not belong as part of a Día de los Muertos celebration. But I do like that statue by nana Saenz and her Catrina statue to the right of the door. If Catrina is ok with Santa being there, I can be too... ) 😇
Okay — that's it for this post! Please give a shout out if I missed some shops here!
