About Us: Code of Conduct

Our founder Perryn Peterson did not create a written Code of Conduct per se but did make it clear what types of behaviors were expected in Mieville as well as what was not acceptable.

  • Kindness and civility were expected of all, at all times.

  • Orderly meetings and classes were the rule, with attendees needing to request permission to speak, wait to be called on, and to take turns.

  • A child-friendly environment was expected as Mieville welcomed child avatars from the start. Mieville sims are Moderate but often trend toward PG.

  • Welcoming to all, as Mieville from the start was LGBTQ+ friendly, neurodiverse and disability-friendly, and friendly to furries, dinkies, tinies, humans, and all avatar expressions.

  • Profanity and vulgarity were strongly discouraged, especially around children and in Group chats.

  • Public nudity was not allowed, and all bits needed to be covered.

  • There were a number of provisions against violence, weapons, and oppression.

  • It goes without saying that griefing was not tolerated.
In Covenants and other documents, Perryn did need to spell out some parameters, including the following, represented here in Perryn's own words:

"What Is Not Permitted in Mieville:

  • Yard sales, outdoor malls, modern signs (for sale, casino, camping, etc.), non-theme structures, walking-signboard avatars, scams (including the attempt to sell items that are available free elsewhere), clubs (but inns approved ahead of time are fine), gambling for Lindens or real currency

  • Racial or other prejudicial slurs, hate speech, public nudity or public overtly sexual activity

  • No one under 18 will be permitted in Mieville, which are designated Mature (sic) Sims. Child avatars are permitted BUT no sexual activity of any kind involving them will be tolerated.

  • Weapons such as personal knives, daggers, bows, pistols, etc. are permitted to be worn but not discharged except on designated firing ranges. In-theme and appropriate decor such as displaying cannons on your pirate ship is allowed. No modern weapon of any kind is permitted.

  • Furthermore this is NOT a combat sim.  Likewise it is NOT a Force Collar area.  There are no slaves in Mieville.  Those seeking submissive roles may choose to be servants, in the style of Victorian culture. For all, this is a place of relaxation and retreat as well as learning."

Additional guidelines and rules were developed by Perryn and Hunts & Events staff for Mieville Historical Hunts and Events. Please see General Guidelines & Event Guidelines for more information.
