And now, some STEAM-y history!
Back in Sept. 2009, Mieville's founder Perryn Peterson created STEAM, SL's very first grid-wide Steampunk themed hunt. Perryn was super into Steampunk but not the gory, gritty, or creepy variety. As with all of the Hunts he created and Mieville itself, he was more a fan of generosity and fun, plus whimsical and odd things. That's the spirit of STEAM that we strive to uphold.
Did you know....
- STEAM was actually an acronym that stood for Steampunk Travellers Event Adventure & Mega-hunt.
- Steampunk in SL was very popular in 2009! There were 103 participating shops in the very first STEAM hunt!
- And, in case you're doing the math, you might wonder how 2025 could possibly be STEAM number nineteen. Simple: for the first few years, STEAM was offered twice a year!
Wow, that's a whole lotta STEAM!
